Progress in the Expansion of Energy Communities in the Danube Region

On 24–25 June 2026, Pinkafeld in Austria hosted the closing conference and final partner meeting of the NRGCOM project. During the event, the partners presented the project’s final results and shared their experiences of establishing and operating energy communities effectively.

The 30-month collaboration brought together 13 project partners and 14 associated strategic partners from 12 countries in the Danube region. More than 200 energy community ambassadors and experts participated in the project’s activities, and 40 awareness-raising events and 31 professional training sessions were held across the region. The partnership mentored nine new community energy initiatives and tested technological solutions at eight pilot sites across four partner countries.

A highlight of the closing conference was the presentation of the NRGCOM White Paper, followed by an expert panel discussion. Participants discussed the conditions necessary for successfully launching and ensuring the long-term sustainability of community energy initiatives, and reviewed the results achieved in various national contexts.

We would like to thank all the partners, experts, ambassadors and contributors for their collaboration! The knowledge and experience accumulated within the framework of NRGCOM, as well as the professional cooperation that has developed, will continue to support the growth of community energy in the Danube region even after the project has concluded.

The project is co-financed by the European Union and the Hungarian State within the framework of the Interreg Danube Region programme.
