SMF Danube Coves

The SMF Danube CoVEs is a "seed money facility" project supported by the Interreg Danube Programme, serving to prepare a large-scale strategic initiative. Its goal is to promote the development of Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) in the Danube Region.
CoVEs are key institutions providing high-quality vocational education and training (VET) programmes, tailored to the specific needs of industries and sectors. They play a crucial role in equipping individuals with the skills, knowledge, and competences required to succeed in the labour market and contribute to economic growth.
The project addresses key challenges, including:
- Regional imbalances and out-migration caused by the lack of effective structures to support human capital development,
- The growing trend of early school leaving, particularly in rural and disadvantaged areas of Eastern Europe,
- The rigidity of education systems, which struggle to respond promptly to labour market needs,
- Low levels of skills and competences,
- Mismatches between VET supply and labour market demand.
The project aims to establish a sustainable network of CoVEs, enhancing employability, reducing brain drain, fostering social inclusion, and supporting sustainable economic development across the Danube Region.
