Supported by the OPTI-UP project and operating on an experimental basis, the new Bus 90 route will run from October 1 to November 30, 2025. It establishes a new public transport link between Kertváros and Tüskésréti út.

The OPTI-UP is an international project aimed at making public transport greener, more sustainable, and more efficient by fostering a closer connection between urban planning and transport organization. The launch of the new Bus 90 route falls under this framework, providing an opportunity to assess public demand and gain operational experience.

Bus 90 will run between Tüskésréti út and Fagyöngy utca along the route: Tüskésréti út – Siklósi út – Táncsics Mihály utca – Aidinger János út – Nagy Imre út – Illyés Gyula utca – Fagyöngy utca. It will call at several important intermediate stops, thereby creating new connections between these parts of the city. The buses will operate on a test basis on weekdays, during morning and evening hours.

Electric buses will be used on the line, which are not only quieter but also significantly more environmentally friendly than conventional vehicles. A key goal for Tüke Busz (the operator) is to reduce the ecological footprint of transport and ensure that the residents of Pécs can utilize a modern, sustainable form of transport.

At the end of the two-month test period, an evaluation of the route's traffic will follow. Based on this assessment, a decision will be made on how the route can be permanently integrated into the city’s transport system in the future. The overarching aim is to further expand public transport coverage and connect new areas to the network.

The OPTI-UP project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Hungary within the Interreg Central Europe Program.
