The fourth partner meeting of the DarkSky4CE project took place in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, between October 15 and 16, where Central European partners – including representatives from Poland, Italy, Germany, Hungary, and Slovenia – gathered to evaluate the results achieved so far and plan the next steps.

During the two-day program, the project’s work packages and completed tasks were reviewed in detail, which included reports on:

    • the development of GIS-based maps and light pollution monitoring tools,
    • the expansion of the photometer network (new stations in Austria),
    • and the results of the working group investigating the relationship between light pollution and nocturnal ecosystems.

    A prominent topic was the development of the transnational strategy, which sets out proposals for the entire Central European region to reduce light pollution, preserve the natural nighttime environment, and develop astrotourism.

    Progress was also made at the meeting in the preparation of the travelling exhibition, which will present the wonders of the dark sky and the dangers of light pollution to visitors.

    On the second day, participants reviewed the future pilot actions:

      • In Germany, light pollution will be reduced through the modernization of public lighting;
      • In Poland, educational and tourism elements will be developed in the Tuchola Landscape Park;
      • In Italy, community-based awareness programs will be launched;
      • And in Hungary and Austria, new studies on the effects of light pollution will take place.

      The partner meeting provided a good opportunity for exchanging experiences, mutual learning, and strengthening further cooperation. The next in-person meeting will take place in Germany in April 2026.
