On 8–9 May 2025, the city of Šibenik, Croatia, hosted the Transnational training academy for regional mentors, a key milestone of the RISE project. The event was organised at the Civitas Sacra centre by our project partner, the Digital Innovation Hub Agrifood Croatia (AFC), and brought together mentors and project partners from across the Danube region.
Advancing regional mentorship in the food industry
The two-day programme focused on enhancing the capacities of regional mentors to support SMEs in their green and digital transition. Training modules covered practical use of the project’s assessment tools – with STRIA colleagues contributing both as trainees and trainers. In particular, one of our team members held a dual-module training on the Energy optimisation readiness assessment tool, delivering sessions on both “Using the readiness assessment tool” and “Interpreting results and suggesting solutions.”
The academy offered a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience, including roleplays and scenario-based exercises for three core readiness tools: digital transition, energy optimisation, and material circularity.
Beyond the training, participants visited two inspiring local initiatives:
- Alu Tech, a Croatian company applying innovative technologies in food processing and energy efficiency. The visit offered insight into real-world applications of Industry 4.0 in a regional context. Alu Tech website
- A shellfish farm supported by AFC, where participants explored the specific challenges of aquaculture and how digital innovation can improve both environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.
The academy not only strengthened the knowledge base of participating mentors but also deepened cross-border connections between innovation actors and SMEs. We thank the organisers and all contributors for making this a valuable and engaging experience!

The RISE project is co-financed by the European Union and the Hungarian State within the framework of the Interreg Danube Region programme.
