On 14 March 2025, event of the DAnube WETlands RESToration project (DaWetRest) was launched by University of Pannonia, where South Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency Nonprofit Ltd. participated as an associated partner. The conference was an opportunity to present the ongoing activities, the results achieved so far within the project, as well as the DEMO areas. The aim of DaWetRest is to develop concrete solutions on a pilot basis to the challenges facing inland and coastal wetland ecosystems in the Danube basin, namely biodiversity, water quality and availability, climate resilience and/or neutrality, and socio-economic benefits for local communities. Innovative solutions will be developed with the involvement of local communities and key stakeholders at regional and European level.
Following the presentation of the 3 DEMO sites – DEMO Middle Danube (MD), DEMO Lower Danube (LD) and DEMO Danube Delta (DD) – researchers from the University of Pannonia introduced the main water management issues in the Danube river basin wetlands, the expected impacts of climate change on wetlands, and the results of limonological and algological surveys of the Danube estuaries. More information on the project is available here: https://dawetrest.eu/
The project is supported by the HORIZON programme.
