The OPTI-UP Interreg Central Europe project addresses the better integration of public transport and urban planning. STRIA, as part of this work, focuses on Pécs City of County Rank, working together with the Pécs Urban Development Nonprofit Plc. and the Tüke Busz Plc.
Currently the development of LUTI (Land Use and Transport Integration) model for Pécs area is on the agenda of project implementation. To assist this work, OPTI-UP organised two online webinars for the project partnership and for the concerned stakeholders.
On 5 December 2024, the event focused on the PTV VISUM model. PTV Visum is the world’s leading transport planning software. It is the standard for macroscopic simulations and macroscopic modelling of transport networks and transport demand, public transport planning, and for the development of transport strategies and solutions. With PTV Visum, you create transportation models that provide insights for long-term strategic planning and short-term operational use. (Source: https://www.ptvgroup.com/en/products/ptv-visum .) Pécs already has its VISUM model, even though that has not been aligned with the meantime changes of the local public transport system.
On 12 December 2024 the second OPTI-UP webinar was centred on a LUTI (Land Use and Transport Interaction) model. It is a computer simulation program designed to support decision-making in urban planning and regional development. Its particularity is to address in an integrated manner, the issues related to land use (urban sprawl, location of activities, etc.) and transport and mobility (modes of travel, traffic, etc.). (Source: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod%C3%A8le_LUTI .) Linked to the LUTI model, the MARS (Metropolitan Activity Relocation Simulator) is a strategic and dynamic Land-Use and Transport Interaction (LUTI) model. In other words, it is a kind of sub-LUTI model. The theoretical foundations of MARS are based on the principles of system thinking and systems dynamics. MARS is implemented in VENSIM®, a System Dynamics Software environment and consists of a transport demand model, a land use model and a set of sub modules, like a fleet composition and emission module. (Source: https://transfair.wifo.ac.at/models/mars.htm .) STRIA, at the moment, is collecting relevant information and data for establishing a simplified LUTI model for Pécs within the OPTI-UP project.
The OPTI-UP project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Hungary within the Interreg Central Europe Programme.
